TEAM FAQ (FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS)
You can also find a lot of answers by looking through our Important Documents page.
GENERAL
Q: Can I do another sport at the same time as cross country?
A: Oh goodness... um... it is very highly recommended that you do not. Especially if you want to prevent an overuse injury. But our general scenario is say you have a cross country meet on the same day as a big competition for "said sport" (like another meet, game, match etc.) and you think you would pick that competition over the cross country meet, then don't do cross country. Joining this team is just like joining any other team, it's a commitment. And even though we'd love to have you, we would need to have 100% of your commitment to the team.
Q: When do we practice/how long do practices last? (During school)
A: During the season we practice every day after school, starting at 3:10. Practices usually go until about 5-5:30pm. We have meets throughout the week and sometimes on Saturday mornings.
Q: What do I need for cross country?
A: All runners should all have a water bottle and a good pair of running shoes for practices. It is recommended that runners also have a watch that is able to take splits and is waterproof (we will talk more about these once the season begins, but a brand like Timex is a good start). Details about (highly recommended) running warm ups and (optional) spiritwear is sent at the beginning of each season.
Q: Where is a good place to get running shoes?
A: Hanson's Running Shop and Gazelle Sports are good places to start looking. These stores specialize in running and they really know what they're doing. You also get a discount there for being a student runner :)
Q: What are the requirements to earn a varsity letter?
A: Refer to "Varsity Letter Requirements" located in Important Documents.

SUMMER
Q: Are there practices that we have to go to in the summer?
A: Yes, they start on August 12th at Beverly Park. Any location changes will sent in an email beforehand.
Q: Should I be training before official practices start?
A: Yes. We cannot stress enough how important it is to be training before the season starts. Not only does it prevent injury, but it makes for an easy transition into the season. Before official practices begin, the captains will be running fun runs and captains' practices.

Q: How far do you usually run at fun runs?
A: The distance ranges, some people only want to go for 2 or 3 miles, others may want to go farther. But the point to fun runs is everyone groups up depending on how far you want to go so you never have to run alone, but you're running as far as you want to.
Q: Are they mandatory?
A: No, but we encourage you to come whenever your schedule allows it. That way you can meet a lot of people on the team, and it's the best (and most fun) way to get into shape before the season!
